چکیده

The current study numerically investigates an active mixing enhancement technique for a supersonic ejector with constant area chamber operating under the critical regime. Streamwise control jet injections are alternatively pulsed at top and bottom sides of entrance. induced oscillation primary enhances bulk between secondary streams. stream penetrates core flow much upstream strategy compared to no-injection case, improving onset by 65.36%. A higher spread along height is observed indicating enhanced two Dynamic mode decomposition analysis fluctuations velocity magnitude revealed that dominant dynamic structures determined pulsation frequency flapping can be observed. spectrum dictated injection. With increase in frequency, amplitude reduces near entrance region chamber, whereas far downstream reaches nearly same value all cases. power spectral unsteady pressure wall oscillations contributed as well shock wave reflections produced jet–jet interaction within chamber.

Numerical Simulation of Mixing Enhancement in a Hot Supersonic Jet

Experimental observations show that the presence of small tabs on the edge of a hot, compressible jet exiting into a slower moving, colder ambient ow can increase the rate of spreading of the jet. This suggests that the rate of mixing of the jet and the ambient uid is also increased. In order to elucidate the physical mechanism responsible for the increased spreading rate a set of calculations ...

Streamwise vortex structure in plane mixing layers

The development of three-dimensional motions in a plane mixing layer was investigated experimentally. It is shown that superimposed on the primary, spanwise vortex structure there is a secondary, steamwise vortex structure. Three aspects of this secondary structure were studied. First, the spanwise vortex instability that generates the secondary structure was characterized by measurements of th...

A pulsed mixing valve for generating reactive complexes in a supersonic expansion

A pulsed source for producing clusters of reactive species in a supersonic expansion has been successfully implemented. The design utilizes two commercial pulsed valves to mix cluster components directly in the expansion, forming cold complexes and minimizing or eliminating the complications due to prereaction of the sample. The duty cycle of the source is well matched to pulsed laser probe tec...

Ignition Analysis in Supersonic Turbulent Mixing Layer

Numerical study of two dimensional supersonic hydrogen-air mixing layer is performed to investigate the effect of turbulence and chemical additive on ignition distance. Chemical reaction is treated using detail kinetics. Advection upstream splitting method is used to calculate the fluxes and one equation turbulence model is chosen here to simulate the considered problem. Hydrogen peroxide is us...
